Bed Bugs

Discovery Camp has been a blessing to hundreds of church groups and thousands of campers for 33 years. We are mindful that you have choices when it comes to summer activities and we are thankful you choose us.

The health and safety of our campers and staff is a top priority. Every year we undergo a thorough inspection by the Texas Department of State Health Services. They oversee all camp facilities that operate in the state. This is an inspection we look forward to as it ensures we are ready for you.

Over the past few years, camps across the state have seen an increase in bed bugs. We encourage you to read this article from the DSHS to become familiar with what bed bugs are and what they are not.

Hey, we know you come to Discovery Camp to have fun and bed bugs are not fun. We have seen incoming cases of bed bug occurrences and take every one of them seriously. Our response to the bugs is summarized best by citing the American Camp Association’s Top Five Tips for Camps: Understand, Inspect, Abate, Treat, and Prevent.

Currently, there is no DSHS protocol for the treatment of these insects. We have developed our treatment program based on best practices shared by associations, other camps, and commercial exterminators.

If you have any concerns please reach out to us by email reservations@discoverycamp.org or the State of Texas PHSCPS@dshs.texas.gov.

While groups are here enjoying camp, we stand prepared to respond to any reports of incoming cases. For support during your camp stay please visit The Source.

Know that we take this situation seriously and continually take the steps necessary to ensure a healthy environment for you and all our guests.
